Introduction to Magic Combat
Magic combat is the attack style of using spells to attack from distance and do damage to the enemy. All spells require magic runes and/or an elemental staff to use.

In combat, these spells occasionally splash, causing no damage and the only base experience you gain from casting the spell. When a spell splashes, it generates a small animation and gives a brief sound effect.

While stronger spells eg Fire wave obviously do alot more damage, they are far less accurate to the weaker spells, eg fire strike.

Elements also play a part in this, certain types of elements have advantages/disadvantages aganist other monsters, eg a fire spell is powerful aganist an ice based monster.

Staffs/Staves
Staves can help enormously to both money and training. The staves elemental attribute can provide infinite runes of that type while it is equipped and can auto cast a few special spells.

The Combat Triangle

Mages are at their weakest against an opposing archer but they tend to have an advantage over melee people.

Equipment
The best magic equipment is a Runecrafter hat, Combat robe top-100, Combat robe bottom-100, Any elemental staff, Runecrafter gloves, Amulet of Magic, Explorer’s ring

You can get the runecrafting equipment from the Great Orb Project (you need 50 runecraft) , the combat robe equipment from Fist of Guthix and the Explorer’s Ring from completeing all beginner tasks in Lumbridge.

While this is the best equipment, the average players just settles on blue wizard robes which gives fairly high magic bonuses but less difficult requirements, not to mention a lot cheaper price.

Magic Training
1-5 Cast Wind Strike on chickens near the Lumbridge
6-10 Cast Water Strike on the cows in the meadow
11-20 Keep killing cows but use your strongest spell and most money efficient staff
21-40 Bring a staff of Earth and some body and water runes and then equip some melee plate armour. Then repeatedly cast curse on the straw dummies. They will hopefully do splash so you can immediately repeat cursing. This generates a very fast way of exp in a money efficient way.
40-50 Casting Falador Teleport is a very fast (although expensive) way of training magic. A staff of air is recommended to save 42gp per cast.
Level 55+ High Level Alchemy allows you to convert items into Coins. This spell gives 65 magic experience per casting and using a fire staff so as to only consume 1 Nature rune per spell, it is fairly cheap . Recommended items to alchemise are Adamant plate bodies or Rune sq shields.
